The conference was opened on Monday 31 March an evening reception in the Drwm at the National Library of Wales. Opening addresses were given by Dr Martin O'Kane, Director of the project, Professor Geraint Jenkins, Director of the Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies, and Dr Rhidian Griffiths of the National Library of Wales. A reception was held outside the Drwm following the opening lecture by Professor John Harvey: 'The Bible and Art in Wales: A Nonconformist Perspective'.
