Martin Crampin
AHRC Project Artist, Researcher & Designer (2005–8)
Over the last ten years I have been working to establish common ground between my activities as an artist and researcher. The combinaton of my roles on the Imaging the Bible in Wales Project is an echo of my main preoccupations with digital imaging and multimedia, and with Welsh historical themes.
During the course of the project I worked on the recording and analysis of Biblical images in Wales, while maintaining an unsteady balance between observations and creations, presenting and interpreting, as part of a project bringing access to our visual culture to a wider public.
My contributions to the Imaging the Bible in Wales Project (2005–8) included photography of relevant artworks from Wales, producing the DVD-ROM and database with our consultants Chris Gibson and Nigel Callaghan, as well as writing and research for both of these outputs as well as the book Biblical Art from Wales. I also designed this website, our logo and publicity materials, as well as the project DVD-ROM and database.
During the project and following its completion, I have been based at the University of Wales Centre for Advanced Welsh and Celtic Studies in Aberystwyth.
